During the Covid pandemic students are allowed to register hours for volunteering for their immediate and extended family or neighbourhood. Activities like lawn mowing, baby sitting, stacking firewood, assisting in a sports league or community class like dance or working in the family business can be counted toward their grad requirement. The goal is for students to gain skills, contribute in a positive manner and build experiences for their resumes.
Calling all Pet Parents! Do you and your pet love going out and meeting new people? Are they Calm* and Friendly*? If so, you and your fur baby could be the perfect fit for our In-home pet visits. A lot of our local senior’s do not have the means to own and/or take care of a pet. In-home pet visits are where you, take your pet, to them, giving our local seniors an opportunity to love and be loved by local pets. What a great idea!
A friendly smile can go a long way; home visits help seniors feel more connected with their communities as well as helping with social skills. As a volunteer, you would be helping by visiting seniors in their home. Activities include but are not limited to; having a cup of tea/coffee (in home or at coffee house) or helping with computer skills or watching T.V. or playing a game, going for a walk with them, (their pet may join if you are comfortable with that) This position is flexible in both time (am or pm) and location.
Harmony Project Sooke (HPS) is a non-profit society that promotes the positive development of youth and community through music, HPS provides musical instruments and instructions to children and youth in the Sooke area. The students participate in after-school music classes (String and Drumline) and also perform at a variety of community events throughout the year. We are looking for a person who is enthusiastic about education and music (but no musical skill is required) to act as a Fundraising Coordinator.
Sooke Meals on Wheels is a 100% volunteer organization offering a program which provides weekly hot meals Monday, Wednesday and Fridays to any person unable to prepare meals for themselves. Frozen meals are also available on request for any day of the week.
Looking for interested individuals that can help a few hours a month delivering food (driving) and or carrying meals into client homes (assisting) on one of two scheduled routes.
Time commitment: A little over one hour per shift; at the most, 3 hours per month.
Victoria Literacy Connection is expanding to Sooke Region to provide free tutoring for children, youth and adults. They are looking for students and tutors. This is a literacy program serving children AND adults.
Ayre Manor is a campus of care owned & operated by a local non-profit society- SECHS (Sooke Elderly Citizens' Housing Society). We are looking for members to serve on our board for a 3 yr term. Attend meetings once a month, and AGM is held each year in September.
Do you enjoy driving? Want to help in your community? We are looking for volunteer drivers with reliable vehicles to provide medical transportation services. Key Responsibilities: • Drive people in need from their home to their medical appointment in Sooke, Colwood, Langford or Victoria. • Provide door-to-door transportation to appointment and back. • Keep accurate records and submit required reports. • Contact the program staff with any health or other concerns about the client • Schedules are flexible; Shifts occur between Mondays and Fridays. Mileage will be reimbursed.
