Better at Home program helps BC's older adults living in their own homes by providing simple, non-medical home support services.
Services are provided by volunteers, contractors and/or paid staff. Better at Home helps seniors with simple day to day tasks, allowing seniors to maintain their independence and stay connected with their community.
We woud like to help seniors maintain their dignity and to be able to stay in their own homes comfortably.
Please contribute your skills to this worthwhile charitable project! HPS provides musical instruments and instruction to kids and youth in the Sooke area. This includes a Strings program (violin, viola, and cello) for students in grades two and up, and a Drumline program (marching band-style drumming) for students in grades six and up. Students perform at community events throughout the year. Work as a team with a friendly board and dedicated teachers to provide this life-enriching musical experience to our youth. (No musical skills are required of the Treasurer!)
Calling all Pet Parents! Do you and your pet love going out and meeting new people? Are they Calm* and Friendly*? If so, you and your fur baby could be the perfect fit for our In-home pet visits. A lot of our local senior’s do not have the means to own and/or take care of a pet. In-home pet visits are where you, take your pet, to them, giving our local seniors an opportunity to love and be loved by local pets. What a great idea!
A friendly smile can go a long way; home visits help seniors feel more connected with their communities as well as helping with social skills. As a volunteer, you would be helping by visiting seniors in their home. Activities include but are not limited to; having a cup of tea/coffee (in home or at coffee house) or helping with computer skills or watching T.V. or playing a game, going for a walk with them, (their pet may join if you are comfortable with that) This position is flexible in both time (am or pm) and location.
