Varied Positions Available
Sooke Fall Fair has volunteers who assist with a variety of programs. They serve breakfast and lunch at Seedy Saturday in February, July's car show, a market the last Saturday in August and September, and their main event the Sooke Fall Fair the first Saturday after Labor day, as well as the Christmas craft fair in November.
This year's theme at the Sooke Fall Fair 2019 is "Rooted in Tradition". This will bring many opportunities to folks to engage at the Fair. Traditionally we have sewed, knitted, felted our own clothing, preserved our foods for the winters, created amazing art through dark winters and lazy summer days. We grew flowers as well as vegetables and our families would brag about who's was bigger and better and farmers vied for the best bull or cow to earn their bragging rights. The Fairs became the place for us all to bring our bragging rights and a healthy competition ensured. Fairs go back hundreds of years and serve as our roots and encourage us to grow, bake, sew, or raise the best bird and thus provide us with better food, clothes, art, animals and more. Writing has always been and is still so appreciated and it just may have started with a short story or a poem, submitted to a fair and grew to the wonderful books we read today to impact knowledge and entertainment.
Perhaps this will encourage you to become a part of our fair to continue on a wonderful tradition. We are in need of a section head for our animal section. We meet once a month to share ideas and to work together to fundraise to keep our fair finances in a health state. If you can give some time to a worthy cause as the Sooke Fall Fair, now celebrating it's 106 year in Sooke, we welcome you. Please call 250-812-2830 and ask for Ellen. All help is appreciated. We value our volunteers!
