Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra - Young Masters
~Danielle Tsao has performed as a soloist with other area orchestra’s and to acclaim in this summer’s Victoria Symphony Splash. She is the winner of the 2018 Don Chrysler Concerto Competition.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s popular and sparkling Cosi fan tutte Overture opens the program. “The overture hints at the plot of the opera: the age-old competition between men and women”, said Aloni. A lyrical oboe solo and lordly violins punctuated with sinuous feminine notes of the English horn call back and forth
Unlike many opera overtures, the Cosi overture contains nearly no melodic material from the opera score except for the last five notes that match the five syllables of the title: Co-si fan tu-te. The title is variously translated as “all women behave the same” or “they are all alike”.
Finally, Georges Bizet’s Symphony No. 1 in C is beloved for its beautiful melodies, rich orchestration and elegant charm. Bizet composed this, his first symphony, when he was just a 17 year-old music student in Paris. It remained unpublished during his lifetime but was rediscovered and performed first in 1933.
