Sooke Food CHI presents the Seedy Saturday, Sooke’s one-day seed and local food growing event. The day will showcase a range of seed and plant vendors, a seed exchange table,educational displays and a Kids Zone for a great family-friendly event.
Toronto-based singer-songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist Shawna Caspi hadn’t done much travelling before tapering off a series of administrative jobs to start touring full-time. She had never even rented a car. She had never been camping before performing at the Blue Skies Music Festival in 2014.
Blackthorn is a Canadian Celtic folk band that saw its inception back in 1989 with a group of musicians who found a common interest in a music that wasn’t all that common in Vancouver at the time. The group features four talented musicians, three of whom share lead vocals, bringing a refreshing diversity of character to the group’s polished sound.
The Nell Robinson and Jim Nunallyjoins five genre-busting artists together, bringing their audiences joyful music infused with folk, bluegrass, Americana, roots, swing, and jazz. Alt-Roots, Folkbilly–whatever you call it–it’s fresh and original music delivered by an all-star band featuring Jim Nunally on guitar, banjo & vocals, Nell Robinson on flute & vocals, Jim Kerwin on bass fiddle, Alex Aspinall on percussion, and Rob Reich on accordion & keyboards
Pretty Gritty might be another duo emerging from a sea of female/male acts as of late, but there is nothing typical about these two. Sarah and Blaine have cultivated a sound that is both timeless and classic, yet they still succeed in bringing something fresh to the table, pushing rootsy-Americana sounds into an edgy, alternative space.
