United Way's Better at Home program helps BC' older adults continue living independently in their own homes by providing simple, non-medical home support services. Its unique seniors planning for seniors' approach means older adults contribute to the design, operation and evaluation of their local program. If you are a senior 65 or older living in our community you are eligible for this program. Seniors who receive Better at Home services will pay a fee based on their income. Some services are free of charge.

Services provided by Sooke Region Better at Home include:

- Friendly visiting

- Light housekeeping

- Grocery shopping

- Hot meals delivery (during the pandemic time)

- Light yard work

- Minor home repairs

Sooke Shelter Society was incorporated in August, 2018. Sooke Shelter is a grassroots charity working together to increase access to affordable housing for those with lower-income, to prevent and end homelessness in Sooke, BC.

We believe that safe, decent, affordable housing benefits the entire community – economically, socially, and environmentally.

Through advocacy, we raise awareness of the critical value of stable, affordable housing to people’s education, employment, health, and overall wellbeing.

As part of our community housing strategy we need a rights-based national housing strategy that is also adequately funded and is developed in consultation with all levels of government to ensure that everyone has the right to secure, adequate and affordable housing.

Sooke Shelter Society coordinates temporary outdoor shelter/survival kits for those experiencing homelessness, advocates housing first strategy, peer support, health supports, affordable housing for all, to prevent and end homelessness in the Greater Sooke Area.

Sooke Shelter is seeking members.

You can make a difference by joining Sooke Shelter Society.

Sooke Shelter Society is a volunteer membership-based Not-for-Profit. It is through the support of our members that we do our work. Our members make the biggest impact through our committee work and active advocacy campaigns. Our members make change possible. They’re the people we call on. Their participation/actions big and small make change possible.

As a member you will be eligible to nominate a member for election, stand for election, attend and vote at the Annual General Meetings as well as any extraordinary meetings that may be called from time to time.

Members will benefit from participating in local community advocacy, outreach, fundraising, developments and contributing to plans and community resources.

Membership is open to individuals, advocates, service providers, people with lived experience, community organizations and government officials interested and/or involved in issues related to homelessness, affordable housing and who agree to support our principles and mission.

Sooke Shelter Society welcomes all those who care about homelessness, affordable housing and bringing the Housing First Strategy to Sooke.

Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue is a team of unpaid professionals who respond to land-based search and rescue emergencies within the Juan de Fuca electoral area including all inland waters. JdF SAR is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year and provide an emergency response.

JdF Regional Park Watch Society

To provide information to park visitors about keeping themselves and their possessions safe while they are visiting our beautiful parks and to provide tourist information about local businesses and attractions.

The JDF Regional Park Watch Society is a local, registered non-profit society with charitable status which operates the annual Park Watch Patrol program in our region from May to September each year. The prime focus of the program is to prevent theft from vehicles, break-ins and vandalism. Our Patrollers provide information on keeping yourself and your vehicle safe while you enjoy spectacular scenery and beautiful parks. Uniformed Patrollers set up a station with A-frame signs, brochures and map table display, locked donation box and water.
