Sooke Shelter Society — Sat, 09 Jun 2018 18:58:59 +0000

SECTION I: GENERAL INFORMATION

Sooke Shelter Society was incorporated in August, 2018. Sooke Shelter is a grassroots charity working together to increase access to affordable housing for those with lower-income, to prevent and end homelessness in Sooke, BC.

We believe that safe, decent, affordable housing benefits the entire community – economically, socially, and environmentally.

Through advocacy, we raise awareness of the critical value of stable, affordable housing to people’s education, employment, health, and overall wellbeing.

As part of our community housing strategy we need a rights-based national housing strategy that is also adequately funded and is developed in consultation with all levels of government to ensure that everyone has the right to secure, adequate and affordable housing.

Sooke Shelter Society coordinates temporary outdoor shelter/survival kits for those experiencing homelessness, advocates housing first strategy, peer support, health supports, affordable housing for all, to prevent and end homelessness in the Greater Sooke Area.

Sooke Shelter is seeking members.

You can make a difference by joining Sooke Shelter Society.

Sooke Shelter Society is a volunteer membership-based Not-for-Profit. It is through the support of our members that we do our work. Our members make the biggest impact through our committee work and active advocacy campaigns. Our members make change possible. They’re the people we call on. Their participation/actions big and small make change possible.

As a member you will be eligible to nominate a member for election, stand for election, attend and vote at the Annual General Meetings as well as any extraordinary meetings that may be called from time to time.

Members will benefit from participating in local community advocacy, outreach, fundraising, developments and contributing to plans and community resources.

Membership is open to individuals, advocates, service providers, people with lived experience, community organizations and government officials interested and/or involved in issues related to homelessness, affordable housing and who agree to support our principles and mission.

Sooke Shelter Society welcomes all those who care about homelessness, affordable housing and bringing the Housing First Strategy to Sooke.

Rural Observer (Juan de Fuca Rural Publications Society)

Sooke Region Volunteer Centre — Sat, 13 Jan 2018 20:46:40 +0000

SECTION I: GENERAL INFORMATION

A group of Juan de Fuca residents has formed a non-profit society to launch a news and advertising publication for the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area to provide a forum for our rural communities to share news, exchange ideas and develop a sense of community. The publication will give businesses within and outside the electoral area an opportunity to promote their products and services and reach potential customers. We hope to provide current information about the region and its services for the many tourists who visit the area. Our goal is to protect, preserve and enhance rural life. The publication will rely on community members to share their interests and points of view through articles, correspondence and photographs. We welcome articles and letters reflecting the diverse interests of our member communities and expressing all points of view. The editorial committee reserves the right to edit for brevity, accuracy, clarity and taste. Though every reasonable precaution will be made to verify the accuracy of material submitted, the editorial committee assumes no responsibility for the content of published articles. The responsibility is that of the writers. References and descriptions of products or services are provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied. Submit your articles, pictures or comments to the Rural Observer.

Please support this important project. We invite you to volunteer and/or become a member of the society, which is open to all residents of the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area interested in an effective publication to serve our area. Send your name and contact information, along with $20 per person per year, to: 2617 Seaside Drive, Shirley, BC V9Z 1G7.
