Although much of the Women’s Institute influence in local communities is attributed to the early years of the province, we are still active in addressing issues as they arise.
Member’s of Shirley Women’s Institute spoke not only for themselves, but also for the provincial membership when they urged the Federal Government to stop the oil tankers from plying the West Coast, moving oil from Alaska to Washington State.
The Sooke Bike Club is dedicated to building a friendly and organized local mountain bike community in Sooke. We do this by supporting and encouraging riders of all ages and abilities through fun events, mentorship and volunteer opportunities. The Sooke Bike Club assists land managers and owners in their efforts to include bike trail systems on their lands, and promotes Sooke's trails and opportunities to the global mountain biking community.
The Sooke Children's Garden Club meets monthly from May till October; all children from the age of 3 are welcome to attend to learn 'how to grow'. The club is free for families and thanks the Sooke Lions, Harbourside Lions and the Rotary Club for their support.
We offer the opportunity for children to learn the basics of gardening, environmental stewardship, encourage them to volunteer in our community and support the Sooke Fall Fair.
