We're a local church that meets in four locations across British Columbia, Canada. A band of volunteers, armed with equipment like night vision binoculars and software to scan for stolen vehicles, covertly patrol the Sooke region to help deter crime.
The Citizens on Patrol Sooke currently has 20 members who act as additional ‘eyes and ears’ for local RCMP.
In one evening, the COPS will travel 50 to 60 km by car a night, carefully monitoring school yards, locked facilities, parking lots, business properties and areas noted to have high crime rates.
They also perform stationery and on foot surveillance, and act as traffic controllers when required.
The District of Sooke is the local government body responsible for providing services for the residents of the municipality of Sooke.
A municipality is a corporation of the residents of its area and the governing body of a municipality is its Council. District of Sooke Council is composed of a Mayor and six (6) Councillors who hold office for a three (3) year term.
The citizens of the District of Sooke voted to become a municipality in 1999 and upon incorporation elected their first Mayor and Council.
The Juan de Fuca Emergency Program provides comprehensive support, planning and management of emergency response in the Electoral Area through the operation of Emergency Social Services. This program provides assistance to residents who are evacuated during an emergency. In cases where residents are left without power, water or access to amenities during storms, natural disasters or other incidents, provision for food, shelter and clothing needs are provided for up to 72 hours.
The East Sooke Services website has been created to provide information to residents regarding services available in the community. The website is under development, and will benefit from input from East Sooke residents who have learned how and where to find resources for themselves and their families. The EMCS Program Office, overseen by the EMCS Society and Sooke School District #62, was established in 1987 when Edward Milne Secondary School became a community school. Since that time, the staff have worked to provide education opportunities for people of all ages in the Sooke Region. We continue to grow and change with the needs of the community, and we hope that you will find programs and services that are both useful and timely.
