The 25th annual “Santa Run” will take place on Saturday, December 8th starting at dusk (5ish). Presented by the Sooke Firefighter’s Association and IAFF Local 4841, the annual Santa Run is a well-loved holiday tradition in Sooke. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of firefighters from the District of Sooke, Otter Point and East Sooke, much- needed cash and food donations are collected in support of the Sooke Christmas Bureau and local families in need.

The parade will assemble at Sooke Elementary School parking lot at 4 p.m. and at 5 p.m. will travel to the Evergreen Mall where the tree lighting ceremony will take place.

“It’s only about a one-kilometre route, but people really look forward to it,” said Lawrence.

“And of course we’ll have Santa there as the guest of honour, so that’s a lot of fun.”

Lawrence noted that the jolly old elf tends to avoid the use of a sled when he comes to Sooke and has, in the past, travelled in a variety of vehicles, including a sailboat.

Messiah is one of the most beloved classical music pieces in the world. Handel composed this intricate choral work in an astonishing three to four weeks in 1741. All three parts of the Messiah will be performed, including 20 solo and 19 choral sections, ending with the beautiful Amen chorus.
