LOST - flip chart dry erase board

Please contact us if you have seen this flip chart dry erase board. It is labelled on the back as belonging to Sooke Region Volunteer Centre.  We can't remember where we might have left it or if we loaned it to someone but didn't follow our own process of signing things out.

Please email us if you find it tucked away with one of yours in error. --- Thanks in advance for your help!

Attention Organizations that offer Concessions

Sooke Region Volunteer Centre has approximately 6 dozen pop left over from an event. The first organization that shows up at our office and tells us how the donation will benefit them will be able to take them away.  We have offered this donation to other organizations - but they have not shown up. This could be YOUR opportunity. Remember office hours are: Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:30 to 4:30.

Sooke Fine Arts Call to Volunteers

The Sooke Fine Arts Volunteer sign up in now live online and you can now see what it available and when to come be a part of the show again this year. Lots of new changes will be happening this year, all of them good, so there will be many new opportunities throughout the show to contribute.

How To Use Positivity To Attract New Volunteers

Finding qualified and capable volunteers for your organization isn’t always easy. Getting the word out is one challenge. Finding people willing to commit to the tasks at hand is another. Once volunteers are recruited, keeping them around and satisfied is a whole other effort.

2016 Victoria Vital Signs survey online NOW

It’s time for Greater Victoria’s annual checkup! If you live or work in the Capital Region (including the Southern Gulf Islands, Salt Spring Island, and Juan de Fuca up to Port Renfrew), take the 2016 Victoria’s Vital Signs® survey and tell us what you love about living, working and playing in Victoria.

The survey is short – between 5 and 10 minutes to complete – and it’s completely mobile friendly so you can take it on the go!

When you complete the survey before July 1, 2016, you can be eligible to win one of ten $50 gift cards to local restaurants.

BC Societies Act Transition Guide

Hello Volunteer Victoria Members, as you may know all non profit societies in BC have to transition their Constitution and Bylaws to become compliant with the new BC Societies Act - which comes into force on November 28, 2016.

The good folks at BC Registry Services just released the official transition guide - which provides step by step instructions on how to transition your Society and other important details. Please feel free to share the guide with your board members and management team.

We have removed our own Quick Fact Sheet from our website as this new document has more detailed and current information. As always, please feel free to contact us if you have questions or visit our website for more information about upcoming training and courses.

FREE legal clinic in Sooke Starting June 8th at 6pm.

Got legal woes? Need some input from someone who knows the legal system? Can’t access justice because it’s financially out of reach? There’s help for that.

Sooke’s MLA John Horgan hosts a free legal clinic at his Sooke Office once a month. He started it earlier this year, on January 13. On the second Wednesday of every month starting at 6:00 p.m., there will be someone at Horgan’s Sooke office to help you with your legal issues.

Job Opportunities

The Community Connections Newsletter is an information source for all things volunteer and non-profit.  We obtain most of our information on jobs in the non-profit sector from information received from Volunteer Victoria.  These jobs could be anywhere in the lower island.  For Sooke jobs, though not necessarily in the non-profit sector, we recommend SookePocketNews as the widest source of local job information we have seen compiled.

This is free (to you) marketing and promotion.  We encourage you include it in your regular marketing plans.
Press release, special requests for assistance, AGM information, or whatever you need to get the word out about.  It must be related to something happening within the Sooke region (Beecher Bay to Port Renfrew).  Your logo and or a quality photo will help create eye appeal.  We post it here in our Community Connections Newsletter and then share to our Facebook page 'Sooke Region Volunteers'.
www.sookeregionresources.com is designed for organizations to create and manage their own listings for timeliness and accuracy.  New listings do not show up immediately as they must go through a security check.  Organizations may have more than one user account and password.
Feature Banner on home-page:  We require a write-up in text format and a quality .jpg photograph (at least 1100 x 300 pixels).  Landscape format generally works the best.  These we create upon request and are usually for special events and can run for up to a month before the event.
We are here to help.  For collaborative endeavours we can create listings and promote as our contribution.  We also provide support to smaller organizations without technical capacity.
