November 2013

One of the top issues in health care facing some Sooke residents is finding a family doctor in their own community.  This issue is particularly problematic for new residents and for people whose own doctors are retiring.  Despite the successful recruitment of a new family physician to the West Coast Family Medical Clinic, and efforts by local physicians to extend hours and offer Urgent Care Clinics, it is not possible to find a doctor in Sooke who is taking new patients.  People who seek services elsewhere such as Langford are up against a similar problem.

The Sooke Harbourside Lions are hosting the annual Sooke Women's Show at the Prestige Oceanfront Resort, 6929 Westcoast Road, Sooke on Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 11am to 4:30pm.  There is a fashion show at 1pm.  The $10 tickets are available at the Sooke Shoppers Drug Mart or Pemberton Holmes.  Come pamper yourself!  Spend some "me" time with your girlfriends!  Enjoy some great food and bevies!  Discover new products.  The grand prize draw is a one night's stay at the beautiful Prestige.

The Sooke Senior’s Drop in Center is planning a Rally for Monday Nov. 25th at 1:30 pm in front of the Municipal Hall at 2205 Otter Point Road.
We urge all our Seniors, and indeed each and every citizen of Sooke, to plan to attend and support us. We desperately need a permanent home for our Seniors, a Social hub for them to enjoy company, good food and entertainment. We need a place to come together every day of the week, where we can offer services that our seniors desperately need.

The year-end Annual General Meeting of the Sooke Seniors' Drop In Centre Society will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013, in conjunction with the festive Christmas Dinner, in the Dining Room at the Sooke Community Hall at 12:00 noon.
This is a correction from previous information circulated recently in the SSDIC Newsletter and in the two local newspapers. Please advise all members, and encourage a strong attendance!
